GTM Supercar

People dreaming of owning a Supercar. I dream of that too, a lot, and one of my favorite dreams. You name it, a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, a Porsche, Saleen, Pagani, etc. Yup, those very, very, very hard to reach and impossible dream.

Most people don’t have that half a million of dineros to spend and waste on just one car. Sooner or later those sweet dream will slip away for most people who can’t afford it, that is. And by the time you already have so much money, you’ll be 80 years old.

So what some people do to make that Supercar dream come true?. They can triple their efforts and work really hard towards that half of millions of dollars or….they can build one in their garage at home. Some of this dreamers realize their dream by building a Kit-Car.

Maybe it’s not the same in term of Supercar quality or with an insanely expensive price tag. Close enough and you could be looking at the next best thing to the actual thing, an exact dimension and detailed replica. Even better because most builders don’t have to spend million of dollars to do the self-build.

One Kit-Car in particular that can drive side by side and even compete with the Supercar gang is the GTM Super Kit-Car (Gran Touring-Mid-engine). The most intriguing and fascinating about this Kit-Car is that it can go from 0-60 mph in just 3.0 seconds.

Is that crazy and outrageous or what?

How can a self-build car, can beat the time by any known and famous Supercars that have the reputation of being the fastest road-going cars?

Factory Five Racing have the performance chart to prove it.

GTM Performance Chart

GTM Black (Front) GTM Engine

The GTM is faster 0-60 mph than a Ferrari Enzo, a Porsche GT, a Saleen Twin Turbo S7, a Ford GT, and a Lamborghini Murcielago! (Acceleration data by Car & Driver Magazine)

The GTM even beats out a Champ car to 60 mph! (September 2005 Road and Track)

  1. 0-60 in 3.0 seconds
  2. 0-100 in 6.6 seconds
  3. ¼ mile in 11.0 seconds @ 132 mph

But a Supercar isn’t just defined by acceleration. The GTM’s ultra-stout, ultra light space frame chassis and deep breathing LS Series V-8 power combine with modern suspension and brake components to deliver Supercar performance in braking and road holding as well.

The GTM stops and turns just as fiercely or more so than the rest of the Supercar gang. With stock Corvette brakes, the GTM slows to a stop from 70 mph in only 166 feet, out braking the mighty $157,000 Ford GT. That was on the ‘STOCK’ Corvette brakes, not on the $30,000 carbon/ceramic brakes assembly.

Want road holding? The GTM turns faster than it falls through the air. Car and Driver measured a phenomenal 1.05 lateral G on street DOT tires. To put that in context, the Ferrari Enzo is the only car that matches it!

The car is light and aerodynamic, with excellent weight distribution and precise race-car handling/braking derived from the Chevrolet Corvette C-5. The car uses potent GM-LS series engine power and Corvette suspension/brakes with Koni brand coil-over shocks and a Porsche 911 trans axle to get the job done.

So what is the price for a dream?

You can see clearly from the chart, definitely not $659,430. For a complete car build, $19,990 kit plus the donor parts and required components can roughly cost $60,000 or less according to FFR.

The GTM Supercar kit is engineered to be built as a chassis kit by a car guy at home with regular tools. The GTM kit gives builder everything they need to build the car, except for select running gear parts taken from a late model 1997-2004 Chevrolet C5 Corvette. Builder can use parts taken from a donor Corvette, or purchase the required parts new from GM performance parts dealers.
