Torrent lovers – don't get caught

I was looking around for latest updates on computer hardwares, while going through some local sites and I found these instead. It’s not exactly what I’m looking for but I better share this and warn the others.

If you’re from Malaysia and loves sharing and downloading torrent files, you got something to worry about. Read on and you’ll find out what I’m talking about. After you read the news, don’t keep it to yourself. Share it with your friends and family. It’s pretty much up to you whether you still want to do it or not. Download at your own risk.

From what I’ve read, a lot of people ain’t happy with the decision. One person brought up an argument which is true if you see it logically, since Open Source softwares and Beta softwares are using torrent too. Even Microsoft offered their free beta test Windows Vista via torrent downloads. And they are legal and under General Public License.

I love torrent files too but hey, what can I say or do. We’ll see what gonna happen.
I’m just sharing the infos…

For those of you who happily torrent stuff, you’d better start being careful. Seems like our ‘friendly’ Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will be cracking down on such activities pretty soon. Considering that pirated software vendors have are almost non-existent in our regular IT centers, it’s not really surprising that downloaders were next on the list.

According to the report from The Star, If you download material illegally from the Internet, you can be fined a minimum of RM250,000 while the maximum fine is RM500,000. Actually this penalty was legislated more than 10 years ago under the Copyright Act, but it has yet to be fully enforced.

According to Deputy Minister Datuk S. Veerasingam, cracking down on Internet download offenders was also gaining momentum. If the government is start to get serious about it, we might start hearing the first charges to be filed against downloaders in the next couple of months. It’ll be interesting to see what happens then.
