Blogging Software Guide: WordPress

1

WordPress is one of the most popular blogging tools and is used by blogs of all sizes. One of the best aspects about WordPress is that it is very customizable and there are hundreds and hundreds of themes and templates for you to choose from. You can visit the largest directory of WordPress themes at WordPress.net.

Like Blogger, WordPress is very easy to use and you can create, delete, edit, and categorize posts in the click of a button. Once you get the software running, it will only take a few minutes to learn all the ins and outs of the WordPress backend (administrative panel). WordPress allows you to either host the software at your own domain name, or get a blog at WordPress.com. WordPress.com works in a very similar way to Blogger.com.

You create an account, create different blogs at a wordpress.com extension and your blog is ready to go. However, one of the major downsides to using wordpress.com over getting your own domain is that you have a lot less freedom when getting your blog hosted on WordPress.com. Unalike when you download the software and host it yourself, WordPress.com does not allow you to edit templates and completely customize your blogs. This means that you can not use AdSense or any other program that requires you to install any code.
